Hengelo, 3rd of May 2021 – Exxellence is expanding further into the domains with the arrival of Berkeley Bridge. The company has developed a low-code platform with which experts (among others in the government sector) can create interactive applications themselves based on decision-tree technology. The addition of the organization to Exxellence Groep enable various smart combinations within the group, but above all ensures the creation of a total solution to support the implementation of the DSO (Environment & Planning Act).

Why the software from Berkeley Bridge?
With the software from Berkeley Bridge a bridge is built between knowledge and technology. It enables content experts to develop their own knowledge systems, and with that knowledge can be shared quickly and easily with others. Because the software is based on graphic decision trees, no knowledge of code is required to develop a knowledge system. For governmental clients, Berkeley Bridge has developed the Berkeley Modeler, a SaaS solution that allows municipalities, provinces and water boards to easily convert legal rules into applicable rules in the form of an understandable question tree.

With the arrival of Berkeley Bridge, Exxellence is not only expanding its range of apps within the Exxellence Cloud, but it also offers new opportunities for smart combinations within the group. By integrating with Zaaksysteem.nl as a VTH application and Tercera-GO! planning software, a total solution in the environment domain will be created. An excellent opportunity now that the new Environment & Planning Act will enter into force on 1 January 2022, whereby every Dutch municipality must be connected.

With the solutions of Berkeley Bridge, information becomes accessible for everyone and complex matters (such as laws and regulations) become practical. This way, Berkeley Bridge contributes greatly to increasing knowledge sharing within organizations. Yet their strength lies not only in the software, but also in the field of in-house legal knowledge to support customers optimally. This also offers opportunities for Exxellence to add new expertise to the current team of professionals.

About Berkeley Bridge
Berkeley Bridge, founded in 2005 and based in Alphen aan de Rijn, delivers solutions for designing, managing and sharing knowledge. This in the form of web applications or web services based on decision trees (-technology), with the aim to optimize processes and to support customers better. Content experts who wish to share their knowledge and experience can easily and independently translate this into their own knowledge system. Knowledge of code is not required for this, which also determines the success of the application.

With its team of 12 people Berkeley Bridge now has over 115 clients in the (semi-) public sector, the legal domain, healthcare, publishing and the financial sector. The Berkeley Modeler is currently fully integrated with the planning software from Tercera, one of the companies that became part of Exxellence Groep earlier this year. Besides public clients such as the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Municipality of Amsterdam, Berkeley Bridge also serves law firms like Stibbe and clients in the healthcare sector like Isala.

Rob van de Plassche (Management Berkeley Bridge) “In the past 16 years, Berkeley Bridge has evolved into a leading player in knowledge technology with the Berkeley Publisher and Berkeley Modeler platforms. With these no-code solutions that have proven their value within the government sector, legal domain and healthcare sector, we started looking for a partner with whom we can realize a solid and well-thought-out scale up of our activities. As part of the Exxellence Groep, our solutions can be deployed to the maximum in all domains of the group and the very wide customer base. The entrepreneurial culture of the Exxellence Groep, who all have a strong focus on content, is an excellent fit with the philosophy of the company and the people at Berkeley Bridge.”

Michel Veenhuis (CEO Exxellence Groep): “With the arrival of Berkeley Bridge we are strategically expanding our existing position within the Environment domain. This expansion offers Exxellence many opportunities to respond strongly to market needs. Especially the renewal of the current application landscape around the DSO. Together we’ll be able to play a leading role in responding to the legislation and regulations which are still being developed.’’

Charly Zwemstra (Managing Partner Main Capital): “Main has entered into a long-term partnership with Exxellence Groep to support the company in its next phase of growth. The arrival of Berkeley Bridge means another strategic step in the expansion of Exxellence Groep to a leading position in the (semi-) public market. With Berkeley Bridge, Exxellence Groep will further broaden and deepen its current range of products and services and become an even more complete provider for its (semi-)public clients.”
