The Main Social Institute

Improving social inclusivity in IT

Main Capital Partners aims to further strengthen the digital economy, both now and in the future. That is why over the next 3 years, we will help fund 9 students during their bachelor program for Software Engineering at the The Hague University of Applied Sciences (Haagse Hogeschool) by offering them the Main Capital Scholarship.

Who do we support?

We aim to support students who are talented and focused on software engineering as a career, but who face difficulties in finishing their studies without additional financial support. We aim to support:

  • Students with a certain distance to the labor market or who face difficulties funding the study themselves (e.g. immigrants, people with a functional disability or other specific circumstances).
  • Students who have finished the basic semester and have finished the first modules of Software engineering.
  • Students living in the Netherlands (not exchange students) in order to directly support our local ecosystem.
  • Students in software engineering can apply after they have finished the basic semester in their first year.

Why this initiative?

Through a combination of Main’s proprietary research, our long experience of investing in software companies and through the anecdotal evidence given by each of our portfolio companies, it is abundantly clear that one of the biggest hurdles to success over the next 20 years will be the development of sufficient talent to satisfy increasing demand.

Independent research shows a continuing and increasingly acute shortage of well-educated and equipped software development staff in North-Western Europe which, if uncorrected, will limit the success story of accelerating growth for the European software industry as a whole.  The impact will not only be economic but will also have a negative societal effect, restricting opportunities to improve the outlook for many in all parts of the community including healthcare, education, security and public services.

The Main Scholarship for Software Engineers, as part of our broader initiative, the Main Social Institute (MSI), intends to help redress the balance, through finding suitable talent for the future in all layers of society by giving access to a career in IT for the more disadvantaged.
