Students of the Technical University Delft and the University of Applied Sciences The Hague and mentors from our portfolio companies (Patchmanager, Railcube and King Software) gathered around to usher in a new year of the Main Scholarship program.
The introductory event was organized in the form of a speed-dating activity, wherein students and mentors alike had the chance to meet up for the first time and get to know each other in an informal way. Throughout the day, students shared their thoughts and expectations about the program.
The Main Scholarship is an initiative of the Main Social Institute, launched with the aim of bridging the gap between prospective talent and the software industry. The program supports highly motivated and ambitious students who, in some cases, face obstacles in completing their higher education qualifications due to personal circumstances. The program provides these students with valuable and enabling financial support and expertise with the ultimate goal being to help and support them to get their degrees in an easier and faster manner. Students will be able to jumpstart their professional careers as software developers and familiarize themselves with the industry. This opportunity and its ability to fast track qualifications is extremely important, as there is a shortage of software developers in the Netherlands and surrounding geographies.
Egbert Jan Botterman from Kingsoftware mentioned: “We have a lot of experience that we are able to share and that the students can really learn from.”
Adding on to that, Joren Banens, student of IT Software Engineering at the University of Applied Sciences of the Hague, mentioned: “At school you learn a lot, but in the real world, it can be different. I believe the program will allow me to apply what I’ve learned in school to the real world. I’m looking forward to gaining the skills and knowledge I need to reach my goals. I look forward to the mentorship program.”
