We spoke with Constantin, CEO of I-doit, about the company’s evolution, its growth ambitions, and how the collaboration with Main supports its journey.
From CMDB to an Integrated Platform
Founded in 1996, I-doit has grown into a leading provider of IT documentation solutions and, more recently, expanded its portfolio with the acquisition of Contechnet. Today, the company employs around 60 people, serves more than 2,000 customers, and offers a comprehensive platform that bridges IT documentation, information security, and compliance.
“Over nearly three decades, I-doit has developed from a specialized CMDB provider into a platform that supports IT documentation, IT asset and service management, and now security and compliance,” explains Constantin. “Our solutions create measurable value by offering a single source of truth across IT landscapes, reducing manual effort and cost, while delivering transparency, audit readiness, and compliance.”
Customer Proximity and Partnerships
This modular design enables organizations to start small and scale step by step, moving from documentation to asset and service management, and with Contechnet, further into Information Security Management System (“ISMS”) and compliance. A particularly strong footprint in the public sector underlines I-doit’s relevance in regulated environments, where flexibility and compliance readiness are crucial. “Customer proximity and adaptability are key to our success,” adds Constantin. “We invest heavily in product development, collaborate closely with clients and partners, and continuously align our platform with evolving regulatory requirements.”
Partnerships are another cornerstone of i-doit’s business. Around 40% of the company’s revenue is generated through partners, while Contechnet operates almost entirely via indirect sales. This hybrid approach ensures both closeness to customers and the ability to scale internationally with the help of local experts. “Our partners play a vital role in scaling the business, especially for compliance and ISMS solutions where local expertise is essential. We are committed to supporting partners who embrace the full I-doit Group portfolio, ensuring customers benefit from an integrated, future-ready platform.”
Growth Through Contechnet
The integration of Contechnet marks a deliberate step to broaden the portfolio beyond IT documentation. According to Constantin, “CMDB and ISMS are two sides of the same coin. By linking these worlds, we can offer organizations a holistic solution that not only documents IT environments but also ensures security and regulatory compliance.” The combination provides strong synergies: while a CMDB forms the basis for understanding and managing IT landscapes, ISMS builds on that transparency to address risks, controls, and compliance.
Looking ahead, i-doit is preparing to expand internationally, building on the maturity of its position in the DACH region. ““Main combines entrepreneurial drive with sector expertise, supporting our strategy, M&A, and international partnerships.”
Innovation and the Road Ahead
Innovation continues to drive the company’s strategy. AI, automation, and data-driven insights are becoming increasingly embedded in the platform to enhance transparency and efficiency. “By embedding AI and automation, we aim to provide customers with audit readiness by design, rather than as an afterthought,” says Constantin.
Innovation, however, is always balanced with reliability: customers rely on i-doit as the backbone of their IT documentation and compliance processes, making stability just as important as speed of development.
The collaboration with Main Capital Partners provides i-doit with strategic backing for this next growth phase. “Main combines entrepreneurial drive with deep sector expertise. They act as a sparring partner in shaping our strategy, identifying M&A opportunities, and building an international partner network. As the i-doit Group, our ambition is to define a new category at the intersection of IT documentation, security, and compliance.”
The road ahead is not without challenges — from the growing complexity of hybrid IT environments to the constant evolution of regulatory requirements. Yet Constantin sees these as opportunities to strengthen i-doit’s positioning. “Our mission is to help organizations move from reactive compliance to proactive, audit-ready governance. Five years from now, I see the i-doit Group positioned as a global leader in integrated IT documentation, security, and compliance — shaping how organizations manage their IT ecosystems with transparency, efficiency, and trust.
Main combines entrepreneurial drive with sector expertise, supporting our strategy, M&A, and international partnerships.”
