Ferranti, an established provider of mission-critical software for energy and utility companies, is pleased to announce the acquisition of Cogenius, a Belgian provider of meter-to-cash software for energy suppliers.

Backed by Main Capital Partners, the transaction marks Ferranti’s first strategic add-on since partnering with Main in May 2026 and supports its strategy to build a leading international energy and utilities software group.

Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Deerlijk, Belgium, Cogenius provides meter-to-cash solutions for smaller and growing energy suppliers. Combining deep in-house energy market expertise with strong knowledge of industry processes and regulatory requirements, its solutions support core day-to-day operations of energy suppliers. Cogenius has built a strong position in Belgium, serving customers including Luminus, Vlaams Energiebedrijf (VEB), and Infrabel.

Founded in 1976 and headquartered in Antwerp, Ferranti is an established provider of mission-critical solutions for the energy and utilities sectors. Ferranti combines five decades of sector expertise with its cloud-based MECOMS 365 platform, built on Microsoft Dynamics 365. The company supports utility customers across more than 12 countries in managing complex meter-to-cash and distribution grid operator processes across electricity, gas, heat and water.

The acquisition brings together complementary market positions, with Ferranti’s established presence among larger utilities, while Cogenius focuses on smaller and growing energy suppliers. Together, the companies combine deep sector expertise and complementary capabilities across the meter-to-cash value chain, enabling them to serve a broader customer base.

Building on Cogenius’ cloud-based solutions and strong position in the Belgian market, the combination creates an opportunity to further internationalize the combined offering, leveraging Ferranti’s international footprint, market expertise, and established market communication connectors. Supported by Main, Ferranti will continue to pursue organic growth and selective acquisitions to further strengthen its international presence.

Cogenius represents a strong strategic fit for Ferranti, combining deep shared expertise in the utilities software market with strong positions across complementary customer segments."

Together with Ferranti, we will be able to serve our customers even better and keep developing our solutions, while opening the door to new European markets as part of the Ferranti organization.”

Tom Van Haute, CEO of Ferranti, added: “We are excited to welcome Cogenius to Ferranti. Our teams, expertise and markets are highly complementary. Ferranti has traditionally focused on large utilities, while Cogenius has built a strong position among smaller and growing energy suppliers. Together, we can serve a broader market and accelerate growth in Belgium and internationally. We intend to introduce Cogenius’ cloud-based SaaS offering to new European markets alongside our MECOMS 365 platform.”

Sjoerd Aarts, Managing Partner at Main and Chair of the Board at Ferranti, concluded: “Cogenius represents a strong strategic fit for Ferranti, combining deep shared expertise in the utilities software market with strong positions across complementary customer segments. We see significant potential to accelerate the growth of the combined group, both in Belgium and internationally. As Ferranti’s first add-on, Cogenius also marks an important step in the group’s ambitious buy-and-build strategy.”

The transaction is expected to close by the end of this month, subject to customary closing conditions.
