Main Capital Partners, a leading investment firm focused on the enterprise software market in Northwestern Europe and the US, with investments in companies such as accounting software company Bjorn Lunden and The Hague-based SDB Group, will become the new principal sponsor of The Hague “Hockey Club Klein Zwitserland” (“HCKZ”) starting July 1, 2025. With over 20 years of history in The Hague, Main aims to contribute not only to the growth and development of the hockey club but also to the promotion of professional and amateur sports in the region. HCKZ, a household name in Dutch hockey since 1908, offers over 2,000 members an inspiring hockey environment with a focus on both recreational and competitive excellence.
As part of this partnership, Main’s branding will appear on HCKZ match jerseys, field side advertising boards, and during events. Additionally, Main will support the organization of sports days and other community activities. This partnership marks a significant step in Main’s ambition to make a positive and sustainable impact on the local community.
A Shared Ambition: Investing in Sports and the Community
HCKZ, founded in 1908 and a key figure in Dutch hockey since its 1974 merger, has a clear ambition: to provide hockey opportunities for all age groups and to excel at the highest national level. With over 2,000 members, including 1,500 youth players, HCKZ is a cornerstone of The Hague’s sports community, fostering a professional and inspiring hockey environment for both recreational and competitive players.
Martin Wörsdörfer, Chairman of HCKZ: “Thanks to the support of Main Capital Partners, Hockey Club Klein Zwitserland can invest further in talent development, particularly within our youth academy, and strengthen our ambitions in top-level hockey. After more than a century, we have grown into a renowned The Hague hockey club known not only for our sporting achievements but also for personal development and social impact. As an established club, we value sponsors who share our roots in The Hague and support our ambition to connect youth development, entrepreneurship, and growth. With Main Capital Partners, a leading The Hague-based investment firm with over 20 years of experience, we have found the ideal partner.”
In addition to financial support, this partnership helps HCKZ realize its sporting ambitions while also leveraging its extensive network to foster new business relationships.
“Hockey Club Klein Zwitserland supports its sponsors by connecting them to our community as we work together to build the future of the sport. With Main’s support, we can strengthen our youth academy, achieve sporting goals at the highest level, and expand our role as a pillar of both The Hague and the national community,” adds Wörsdörfer.
Main Capital Partners: More than a Sponsor
For Main, this collaboration extends beyond financial support. “We believe in the power of sports to connect people and communities and see a clear parallel between professional sports and the top performance of businesses and teams,” says Charly Zwemstra, Managing Partner & Chief Investment Officer of Main.
“As a The Hague-based investment firm, we feel closely connected to the region and aim to enhance our social impact. By partnering with HCKZ, we not only support a club with a rich tradition but also contribute to strengthening both amateur and professional sports. Main is growing to 100 employees this year, with about half of our team based in The Hague. Across the portfolio companies we manage more than 10,000 employees globally. We promote vitality and fitness within our team, and a partnership with a club like HCKZ aligns perfectly with our values. Although Main is expanding internationally with offices in Belgium, Germany, Sweden, the US (affiliate office), and soon in Paris, we remain deeply connected to The Hague. For instance, we recently renovated a historic monument at Plein 1813, now our headquarters, and through our Main Social Institute, we collaborate with The Hague University of Applied Sciences to make technical fields of study more attractive,” concludes Zwemstra.
Beyond sponsorship, Main will actively participate in initiatives within HCKZ’s business lounge. This collaboration provides a valuable platform to strengthen relationships and exchange ideas with other local and national partners.
We believe in the power of sports to connect people and communities and see a clear parallel between professional sports and the top performance of businesses and teams.”
Hockey Club Klein Zwitserland (HCKZ), formally established on September 20, 1908, is one of the most prominent hockey clubs in the Netherlands. The club traces its roots back to the merger of two successful The Hague clubs: HHIJC (Haagsche Hockey en IJshockeyclub) and TOGO (Tot Ons Genoegen Opgericht). Both clubs shared the Klein Zwitserland grounds before officially merging on July 1, 1974. With a rich history that includes multiple national championships—featuring HHIJC’s legendary player Roepie Kruize, who led the club to four titles in the 1940s and 1950s—HCKZ offers a legacy of sporting excellence and community spirit. Based in The Hague, the club combines its storied history with an ambitious vision for the future, focusing on providing hockey opportunities for all age groups and striving for top-level performance at the highest national level. With over 2,000 members, including 1,500 youth players, HCKZ is a cornerstone of The Hague’s sports community. Its state-of-the-art facilities, including multiple artificial turf fields and a welcoming clubhouse, support a professional and inspiring hockey environment for both recreational and competitive players. The club is committed to talent development, sportsmanship, and team spirit, making it a key player both locally and nationally.
