Main Capital Partners has announced the winners of the Main Software 50 Nordics 2026, recognizing the region’s most successful and promising Enterprise Software companies.

The third edition of the ranking celebrates the achievements of Nordic software businesses and highlights the continued strength of the sector, characterized by increasing recurring revenues, international expansion, and improving operational efficiency.

Now in its third edition, the Main Software 50 Nordics has established itself as an important benchmark for identifying excellence in the Nordic software ecosystem. Based on objective company data rather than jury opinions, the ranking, verified by Menon Economics, recognizes performance across key indicators including revenue growth, recurring revenues, profitability, internationalization, and innovation. Since its launch in the Benelux in 2012 and subsequent expansion into DACH in 2022 and the Nordics in 2024, the initiative has highlighted the growing importance of software companies in Europe’s economy.

Nordic software companies demonstrate increasing maturity, internationalization, and operational efficiency

The results of the Main Software 50 Nordics 2026 demonstrate the continued resilience and development of the Nordic B2B software sector. The top 50 ranked companies recorded average revenue growth of 17%, in line with the previous edition, while strengthening their recurring business models, expanding internationally, and improving productivity.

Recurring revenues continue to form the foundation of the business models of the top 50 ranked companies. The average share of SaaS revenues increased significantly from 70% in 2025 to 80% in 2026, while the average contribution of recurring revenues rose from 86% to 90%. These developments reflect the increasing maturity and predictability of Nordic software businesses, with companies continuing to transition towards scalable, subscription-based business models. Average recurring revenue growth remained strong at 18%, compared to 20% in the previous edition.

International expansion is another defining characteristic of this year’s top 50 ranked companies. The average contribution of international revenues increased from 45% to 55%, highlighting the growing ability of Nordic software companies to scale beyond their domestic markets. This development underlines the international competitiveness of Nordic software businesses and their ambition to establish stronger positions across Europe and beyond.

At the same time, companies are demonstrating continued improvements in operational efficiency. Average revenue per full-time employee increased from €152,000 to €173,000, representing a 10% year-over-year increase for the 2026 cohort. Employment among the top 50 ranked companies also continued to expand, with the companies in this year’s ranking collectively employing 4,217 full-time employees, compared to 3,407 in the previous edition’s cohort. On a like-for-like basis, the 2026 cohort increased its workforce by 6%, illustrating continued job creation alongside improving productivity.

Profitability remains an important priority for Nordic software businesses. Approximately 66% of companies reported EBITDA margins exceeding 10%, compared to 68% in the previous edition. Meanwhile, 48% of companies achieved revenue growth above 20%, broadly in line with the 50% recorded last year. Looking ahead, 40% of companies anticipate future revenue growth exceeding 20%, compared to 50% in the previous edition, suggesting a more measured outlook while maintaining ambitious growth objectives.

Investment in innovation also remains a defining characteristic of the region. Despite a slight decline from 92% last year, 88% of the top 50 ranked companies invest more than 10% of their revenues in research and development, demonstrating a strong commitment to product development and technological advancement. In parallel, partnerships are becoming an increasingly important growth channel, with 38% of companies generating more than 10% of their revenues through partners, up from 28% in 2025.

Together, these developments highlight how the top 50 ranked Nordic software companies are increasingly focused on building sustainable, internationally competitive businesses, combining recurring revenue growth with operational discipline and continuous innovation.
