As a member of the Market Intelligence team, you will play an active part in the Market Intelligence & Performance Excellence Group and will often work with (international) deal teams.
The Market Intelligence team supports Main’s investment teams and portfolio companies with data-driven market insights. In addition to qualitative market research, such as interviews with experts and through market reports, the MI team manages an extensive database of data on more than 15,000 software companies in the regions in which Main operates. The team conducts various analyses on this database to identify trends and to find relevant companies for Main. By combining various data sources, including external data from Pitchbook, the MI team provides a complete and accurate picture of the market.
The Market Intelligence team is responsible for:
- Data management and management: maintaining our database, implementing process changes, realizing links with 3rd party sources, managing the software taxonomy, setting up and further developing our own data infrastructure.
- Generating data-driven, practical insights and dealflow lists: based on our own database (and also 3rd party sources) generating insights into growth rates, potential targets or creating lists that can be used for dealflow generation.
- Writing strategic market reports: writing data-based reports on software segments, end markets and technological and (macro)economic trends, which help Main to determine or substantiate investment decisions.
Concrete tasks include:
Strategic market studies
- Analyze markets, segments, technologies and trends, and report on them with clear actionable recommendations for Main and its portfolio companies.
- Preparation of online surveys and (automatic) processing of their results.
- Support the data collection process of the annual Main Software 50.
Practical data insights and lists
- Running queries on our own database (and external data sources) to find potentially interesting companies (dealflow generation).
- Creating and implementing standardized templates and frameworks for market intelligence.
- Setting up (semi-)automated processes to generate dealsheets, market scans and benchmarks.
Data management
- Maintain Dealcloud, as our main data platform.
- Assist in setting up new data infrastructure.
- Processing and linking 3rd party sources.
- Scraping websites to store information quickly and in a structured way.
- Monitoring the data quality of Main.
- Leveraging and making our data more widely available, e.g. through dashboarding in PowerBI
Who we are looking for:
- You have completed a technical education (University), where data management has been central, such as: software engineering, information management, business informatics or data science.
- You have 0-2 years (working) experience with market research and/or data management, preferably within the software industry, private equity sector, or other relevant internships (e.g. in venture capital, M&A, research or data agencies). Think of roles similar to market researcher, data analyst, data scientist, or Business Intelligence specialist.
- Experience with Python, Power BI and/or SQL is a plus.
- You are proficient in Excel and PowerPoint.
- You have the ability to work independently and prioritize in a changing and challenging work environment.
- You are entrepreneurial, proactive & self-thinking.
- You have strong analytical skills.
- You have a flexible mindset and thrive in dynamic environments where priorities can change by the moment.
- You have good social and communication skills and integrity. You always work as part of a team and communicate with deal teams, and possibly management teams and the layers below.
- Excellent command of English and Dutch in word and writing is a must (German is a plus).
- You have an affinity with Software/IT/SaaS.
